Past Image Photography
bringing the past to life

This website features a selection  of the re-enactment photographs of Susanne and Kate Atkin.

Susanne Atkin BA (Hons), LRPS
Degree in the History of Art; worked as an archaeological finds researcher (clay tobacco pipes); and am now a professional freelance indexer.

A serious interest in photography developed from attending re-enactments by the Fairfax Battalia of the English Civil War Society and the Tudor Group (as one who has always refused to don any kind of costume or kit!). I use both digital and film cameras, and am resisting learning how to use computer manipulation packages. A few images have had to be 'rescued' in some way, but the majority of the photos on this website have not been altered or manipulated on a computer. (You will not see any ghastly effects such as 'watercolouring' or 'pen and ink' on this website.)

Kate Atkin LRPS
Currently studying photography at University College Falmouth, Cornwall. Kate took part in English Civil War re-enactments by the Fairfax Battalia, but when Susanne acquired a digital camera Kate used it to good effect at events such as Kirby Hall and Hounslow, and is now studying to become a professional photographer.  Visit Kate's web site at kateatkinphotography.com

Malcolm Atkin BA (Hons)
A professional archaeologist with a long-standing involvement in re-enactment.  Main photographic interest is in the use of period cameras to explore the means of contemporary recording, particularly the work of the WW2 British Army Film and Photography Unit.
